Education and public sector building

Education & public buildings

Occupied buildings, fixed calendars, public scrutiny

Works in schools and public buildings are governed by the people using them: term dates, exams, safeguarding arrangements and a budget that has to be defended in public.

We programme around the calendar, work in occupied buildings, and hand over life-safety documentation the responsible person can actually use.

What tends to go wrong

The calendar is the programme

Three constraints that decide whether a school or public building project lands.

  1. 01

Intrusive work belongs in the holidays

Planning runs backwards from the academic year. A closure window that is missed is not recovered in term time.

  2. 02

    Safeguarding governs the site

The right checks and supervision arrangements for everyone who sets foot in the building, including subcontractors and deliveries.

  3. 03

Public money needs a paper trail

Scope, price, certification and outcomes documented well enough to be reviewed after the fact by someone who was not in the room.

Where the scopes meet

Decarbonisation has to be measurable to be defensible

A carbon claim without a metered baseline is not evidence. The electrical works create the baseline the renewable works are measured against.

One contractor on both sides of that interface is the whole argument.

  1. 01

    Energy and carbon

    Electrical scope

Sub-metering and distribution changes that make consumption visible building by building.

    Renewable scope

Generation and storage sized against the real baseline, with the carbon and cost position stated before the decision.

  2. 02

    Life safety

    Electrical scope

Detection, alarm and emergency lighting to the standards the responsible person is accountable for.

    Renewable scope

Monitoring and reporting aligned to the estate's compliance calendar rather than a separate contractor's system.

  3. 03

    Closure windows

    Electrical scope

Strip-out, re-cable and testing compressed into defined holiday closures.

    Renewable scope

Roof-mounted generation installed while the building is empty and commissioned before staff and pupils return.

Existing assets

Existing school roofs are already generating

Many public buildings carry renewable assets installed under a previous funding round, with nobody accountable for condition reporting them.

Commercial RCR — from £295 + VAT
  • Condition reporting on existing solar PV, battery storage and EV charging assets.

  • Findings structured for estate planning, funding bids and insurance review.

  • Reported consistently across a multi-site estate so buildings can be compared.

The holidays are the programme. Share the dates, the building constraints and the specification and we will tell you what can be delivered inside them.
