Home energy grants and funding

Funding and financial support may be available for eligible homes considering energy-efficiency improvements, renewable technology or clean heating — subject to scheme criteria, property suitability and approval by the funding body.

Greentech surveys the property, assesses what it can support, and installs to standard. We do not decide eligibility, and no funding is guaranteed.

Measures we install

Solar PV, battery storage, EV charging, electrical upgrades

Assessment first

Roof, supply and fabric checked before design

Funding decided by

The funding body, on the scheme's own rules

Typical sequence

Survey, design, application support, installation

Energy supplier obligation

Details pending confirmation

Energy Company Obligation (ECO) and supplier schemes

Energy suppliers are obliged to deliver a proportion of energy-efficiency improvements to eligible homes, and some suppliers run their own additional schemes. Eligibility and the measures offered sit with the supplier and the scheme rules.

Designed for
Homeowner, Tenant, Landlord
Potential support
Set by the obligation and by each supplier's own offer.
Key considerations
Eligibility is determined by the supplier obligation rules in force at the time, the property, the heating system and, in some routes, household circumstances. Suppliers and their agents assess and approve.

Government grant and interest-free loan

Active

Home Energy Scotland Grant and Loan

The Scottish Government's main domestic route for clean heating and energy efficiency, administered through Home Energy Scotland. Grant support and interest-free loan funding may be available for qualifying measures, and the funding body - not Greentech - decides eligibility.

Designed for
Homeowner, Landlord
Potential support
Grant and loan levels are set by the funding body and vary by measure. Confirm the current published levels with Home Energy Scotland.
Key considerations
Scottish homeowners and some landlords, where the property and the proposed measure meet the scheme's own technical rules. An assessment and a quote from an eligible installer normally form part of the process.

Government loan

Active

Home Energy Scotland landlord support

Loan and grant routes for landlords improving the energy performance of let property in Scotland, delivered through Home Energy Scotland under the same scheme rules as the domestic routes.

Designed for
Landlord, Business
Potential support
Set by the funding body and varies by measure and property.
Key considerations
Landlords of eligible Scottish property, where the measure and the property meet the scheme's technical rules. Energy Performance Certificate conditionality can apply to let property.

Government fuel-poverty programme

Active

Warmer Homes Scotland

A Scottish Government programme aimed at households living in, or at risk of, fuel poverty. It provides a package of heating and insulation improvements through a national delivery contractor, following the programme's own assessment.

Designed for
Homeowner, Tenant
Potential support
The package is defined by the programme, not by Greentech.
Key considerations
Households in Scotland who meet the programme's eligibility conditions, which are assessed by the scheme. The programme has its own survey and delivery rules, and its own appointed installation contractor.

What you need to know

How the support usually works

Most domestic support in Scotland runs through a grant or an interest-free loan, applied for by the household with a technical assessment and a quote from an eligible installer. Some measures are grant funded; others are loan funded; several are a mixture of both.

Because the funding body assesses the application, the order matters: agree the technical scope, obtain the quote, complete any required approval, and only then start work. Work started before approval can fall outside the scheme.

What the money can cover — and what it rarely does

Schemes define eligible measures precisely. Roof reinforcement, electrical supply upgrades, containment, groundworks and making good are commonly outside the definition, even where they are essential to the installation being safe and compliant.

  • Eligible measures are defined by the scheme, not by the installer
  • Loan funding usually has to be repaid, even where a grant element is present
  • Some schemes require a specific standard of insulation or heating before other measures qualify
  • Consent, building standards and network applications sit alongside the funding application

Technical suitability comes first

A property can meet every published scheme condition and still not be suitable: a shaded roof, a single-phase supply at its limit, a consumer unit with no capacity, or a heat distribution system that cannot run at the temperatures a heat pump needs.

Our survey records those constraints before anything is ordered, so the design and the funding route are decided together rather than one after the other.

Tell us about the property and what you are considering. We will come back with the routes worth investigating and what a survey would need to establish.

We use your details to respond to this enquiry only. We do not apply for funding on your behalf, and we do not decide whether you are eligible.

Already have renewable assets?

Funding is not the only opportunity. Understanding the condition, safety and performance of existing solar, battery or charging assets could identify problems, risks and optimisation opportunities — particularly where an installation has never been independently inspected.
