Project overview

Greentech (Scotland) Ltd was appointed by Harmony Fire Ltd to deliver electrical works associated with a wider fire-safety programme across occupied residential tower blocks in Edinburgh.

The programme included works at Northview, Greendykes, Wauchope, Fidra, Birnies and Kirkgate. Greentech's role involved the installation and coordination of electrical infrastructure and associated equipment within live residential environments.

The works required more than straightforward installation. As existing-site conditions and technical constraints were encountered, Greentech provided practical design input, supported the development of workable solutions and revised electrical schematic drawings to reflect the agreed installation requirements.

Throughout delivery, particular attention was given to safe access, resident considerations, site security, good housekeeping, coordination with the wider project team and minimising disruption within occupied buildings.

The project requirement

The project required Greentech to deliver coordinated electrical works supporting the wider life-safety programme while working within existing, occupied residential buildings. Greentech's responsibilities included:

  • Electrical infrastructure installation
  • Installation and connection of associated system equipment
  • Plant-room electrical works
  • Electrical containment
  • Distribution and switchgear interfaces
  • Generator connection works
  • Small power and lighting
  • Trace-heating supplies
  • Design coordination and technical input
  • Electrical schematic drawing revisions
  • Checks, inspection and testing
  • Identification and rectification of installation issues
  • Commissioning attendance and handover support

Design input and proactive problem-solving

As the programme progressed, conditions encountered within the existing buildings required elements of the electrical installation information to be reviewed and developed.

Greentech did not approach the project solely as an installation exercise. The team assessed the electrical and physical constraints encountered on site, provided practical technical input and worked with the wider project team to develop suitable solutions.

Where changes were required, Greentech contributed to revisions of the electrical schematic drawings so that the installation information reflected the actual site conditions and the agreed technical approach.

This proactive involvement helped the programme move forward without allowing site-specific challenges to become unnecessary delays or unresolved installation issues.

Greentech's project scope

  • Electrical infrastructure

Greentech delivered electrical infrastructure and associated system connections across the programme, including containment, cabling, distribution interfaces, plant-room services and supporting electrical installations.

  • Plant-room electrical works

The project scope included electrical works supporting plant-room equipment, distribution, switchgear interfaces, small power, lighting, trace heating and generator connections.

  • Design coordination

Greentech reviewed project information against actual site conditions, provided technical input where issues were identified and supported revisions to electrical schematic drawings.

  • Testing and quality control

Greentech undertook the required checks and testing, identified and addressed installation issues, maintained quality control and supported the project through completion.

  • Commissioning and handover

The Greentech team attended and supported commissioning and handover activities as the electrical works were completed and brought into service.

Project challenges

  • 01

    Occupied residential buildings

The works were delivered within occupied tower blocks. Access, resident safety, working areas, housekeeping and end-of-shift security therefore required careful daily management. Greentech organised the works to maintain safe access and minimise unnecessary disruption to residents while allowing the installation programme to progress.

  • 02

    Existing-site conditions

The existing buildings presented physical and electrical conditions that could not always be fully resolved through the original project information alone. Greentech reviewed the issues as they emerged, contributed practical technical input and supported the development of revised schematic information and workable installation solutions.

  • 03

    Multi-site project delivery

The programme extended across a number of residential tower blocks. Greentech was required to maintain consistent installation, safety and quality standards while responding to the conditions encountered at each location.

  • 04

Coordination with the wider project team

The electrical works had to be sequenced alongside the wider life-safety programme and coordinated with Harmony Fire Ltd, site representatives and other project personnel. Clear communication and timely technical input were important to resolving interface issues and keeping the works progressing.

  • 05

    Live electrical and life-safety infrastructure

The installation formed part of a wider programme involving critical building systems. Electrical interfaces, testing, issue resolution and commissioning therefore required controlled delivery and appropriate technical coordination.

Our approach

  • 01

    Survey and design review

Greentech reviewed the project requirements against the conditions encountered within the existing buildings. Where discrepancies or installation constraints were identified, Greentech assessed the implications, provided design input and supported the revision of electrical schematic drawings to reflect the agreed solution.

  • 02

    Planning and coordination

The team planned labour, materials, access and daily installation activities around the requirements of occupied residential properties. Greentech coordinated with Harmony Fire Ltd and the wider project team to sequence the electrical works alongside other programme activities.

  • 03

    Installation

The electrical infrastructure and associated equipment were installed in accordance with the developed project information and agreed technical requirements. Where site-specific issues were encountered, Greentech proactively worked through the technical and practical implications rather than allowing problems to remain unresolved.

  • 04

    Testing and compliance

Greentech's responsibilities included checks, inspection, testing, quality control, identification and resolution of installation issues, and completion records.

  • 05

    Commissioning and handover

Greentech supported the commissioning and handover process, helping take the electrical works from installation through testing, close-out and final completion.

Project outcome

The completed programme demonstrates Greentech's ability to deliver:

  • Coordinated electrical works within occupied residential properties
  • Electrical infrastructure supporting wider life-safety installations
  • Practical design input and schematic drawing development
  • Plant-room distribution and associated electrical services
  • Multi-site project planning and delivery
  • Technical problem-solving within existing buildings
  • Testing, issue resolution and commissioning support
  • Effective coordination with contractors and wider project teams
  • Controlled delivery within sensitive public-sector environments

Greentech project statement

Understand the infrastructure, identify the issue, develop the solution and deliver the completed installation.

Capability

Proven electrical delivery supporting wider energy infrastructure

The infrastructure discipline this programme demanded — understanding an existing electrical system, resolving the constraints within it and delivering the installation — is the same discipline behind our commercial electrical and renewable-energy work, including reactive electrical works when a live building needs attendance.

  • Commercial Electrical

Electrical infrastructure, distribution, power, lighting, controls, containment, testing and project delivery.

  • Commercial EV Charging

Workplace and fleet EV charging supported by electrical-capacity assessment, infrastructure design, installation and commissioning.

  • Solar PV and Battery Storage

Commercial renewable-energy systems designed around the existing electrical infrastructure and operational requirements of each site.

  • Electrical Maintenance and Reactive Works

Planned maintenance, compliance support, fault response, remedial work and electrical asset care.

This Edinburgh programme did not include EV charging, Solar PV or battery storage. The connection is Greentech's proven ability to understand and deliver the underlying electrical infrastructure upon which these technologies depend.
