Home EV charger funding

Home charging support in the UK is now targeted rather than universal. The general homeowner chargepoint grant is no longer open, and current routes focus on people who rent, flat owners, landlords and organisations.

This page sets out what that means in practice, what a home installation involves, and how to avoid the most expensive mistake — starting work before an approval.

Chargepoint routes worth checking

Each card is generated from our central funding database. Where a window has closed, it says so — we do not present a closed scheme as open.

Government chargepoint grant

Active

EV chargepoint grant for households with eligibility requirements

A grant route for people who rent, or who own a flat, and who therefore cannot use the standard homeowner chargepoint grant. It contributes towards an eligible chargepoint at a property with eligible private parking.

Designed for
Tenant, Flat owner
Potential support
Up to 350 pounds per eligible chargepoint, within published scheme limits.
Key considerations
Renters and flat owners, with off-street private parking at the property, an eligible vehicle, permission from the landlord or freeholder where required, and an eligible installer. The grant must be approved before installation starts.

Landlord chargepoint support

Support for residential landlords and property portfolio holders installing charging at let properties or developments. The routes available to landlords have been restructured more than once, so the currently open route is confirmed per project.

Designed for
Landlord, Business
Potential support
Published per-chargepoint support, subject to the route in force.
Key considerations
Landlords and portfolio holders with eligible off-street parking, an eligible property, tenant or resident use, and installation by an eligible installer after approval.

What you need to know

What is open, and what is not

If you own a house with private parking, the installation is normally a straightforward commercial job rather than a funded one. If you rent, or you own a flat, specific grant routes may exist — with their own conditions on parking, vehicle and permission.

We keep the current position in our funding database rather than in page copy, so it can be corrected the moment a scheme changes.

What a home installation actually needs

A chargepoint is a continuous load, often the largest single load in a home after heating. The installation quality depends on the supply and earthing arrangement far more than on the charger box itself.

  • Supply capacity, and whether load management is needed
  • Earthing arrangement and protective device selection
  • Cable route, containment and any groundworks
  • Position relative to the parking space and the vehicle's charge port
  • Open PEN, surge and RCD arrangements to current standards
  • Notification to the network operator where required

The order that protects the funding

Where a grant is involved, the approval normally has to exist before the installation starts, and the installer usually has to be eligible under the scheme. An installation completed first is not normally made eligible afterwards.

Do not start installation before any required approval

Where a grant is being claimed, work started before the approval process is complete can fall outside the scheme entirely. Confirm the route, the approval and the installer eligibility first.

We use your details to respond to this enquiry only. We do not apply for funding on your behalf, and we do not decide whether you are eligible.

Already have renewable assets?

Funding is not the only opportunity. Understanding the condition, safety and performance of existing solar, battery or charging assets could identify problems, risks and optimisation opportunities — particularly where an installation has never been independently inspected.
